Tens of thousands of people participated today in a May Day celebration organized by the Social Democratic Party (SPÖ) in City Hall Square.

Both Michael Ludwig, the mayor of the Austrian capital Vienna, and Andreas Babler, the leader of the Social Democratic Party (SPÖ), called on the public to endure the government's strict budgetary measures, emphasizing that not all demands can be met 100 percent.

The mayor of Vienna clearly rejected forming a government with the right-wing Freedom Party (FPO), noting the SPD's pride in its victory in the recent municipal elections.

Ludwig described the SPD as the guarantor of Vienna's continued resilience against authoritarian regimes.

For her part, Marina Hanke, president of the Vienna Women's Union, emphasized that "we can celebrate that Vienna has been able to withstand many challenges."
