Profile of the King

Akihito is a former Japanese Emperor. Akihito, a member of the 'Imperial House of Japan,' reigned as Japan's 125th Emperor from 7 January 1989 to 30 April 2019. He was one of the modern world's few emperors who earned the reputation of being an ideal leader. Akihito's peace-loving nature was on display almost immediately after succeeding his father, when he decided to make peace with China and other Asian nations. Even leaders of other powerful nations and sections of the media have praised Akihito for being a humble man despite his royal ancestry. When the devastating Tsunami struck Japan, Akihito's inspiring speech provided a ray of hope to many people whose lives had been shattered by the disaster. Apart from being a member of the 'Imperial House,' Akihito is also a scholar. Many of his molecular biology research papers have been published in peer-reviewed scientific journals. He was also involved in specialized research on the fish family 'Gobiidae' and its taxonomy.
