The latest medical studies presented at the conference today, Sunday, indicated that increased exposure to traffic-related air pollution clearly increases the suffering and delays in recovery for asthma patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
The study warned of an increase in hospitalizations due to respiratory diseases, noting the close relationship between traffic-related air pollution and the development of asthma to chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
The study called for increasing access to parks and gardens to prevent harmful and long-term effects on respiratory health.

The study was conducted by Dr. Shanshan Xu from the Department of Global Public Health and Primary Care at the University of Bergen in Norway. The study included 1,644 people from five countries and assessed the relationship between respiratory health and long-term exposure to particulate matter, black carbon and nitrogen dioxide.
The annual conference of the European Society of Respiratory Physicians began yesterday in Vienna and will continue until next Wednesday with the participation of a large number of doctors, researchers, experts and companies from various countries around the world.
