According to the Buckingham Palace announcement, her Majesty The Queen, Elizabeth II died peacefully at Balmoral on the afternoon of September 8, 2022.

Monarchy is the United Kingdom's oldest form of government.
A king or queen is the Head of State in a monarchy. The British monarchy is known as a constitutional monarchy, means that, while the Sovereign is the Head of State, an elected Parliament has the authority to make and pass legislation.
The Monarch, as Head of State, performs constitutional and representational duties that have evolved over a thousand years of history. In addition to these State responsibilities, the Monarch serves as the 'Head of Nation' in a less formal capacity. The Sovereign serves as a focal point for national identity, unity, and pride; provides stability and continuity; officially recognizes success and excellence; and promotes the ideal of voluntary service.
