Poet Hong Thanh Quang “put an end to a period of my life to begin another”

Followers of poems by Hong Thanh Quang are quite familiar with many of his private musical poems nights, which are large scale and emotional. Some of the most notable are “Toi da quen minh chi nghi ve em” (2013), “Anh khong muon lac em them lan nua” (2015), “Tro ve thuong lay nhau thoi” (2016), "Con dieu chi em mai miet di tim" (2017) and “Nguoi dan ong mua thu” (2018). For his part, Hong Thanh Quang was unsure if it was spontaneous inspiration or fate that urged him to organise these special musical poems. But one thing is for sure, these events have engraved in our minds the image of Hong Thanh Quang, a poet with distinctive style, leaving an impression on the hearts of art lovers and the public.

“Van nguyen la noi khat” art performance night continues Hong Thanh Quang’s series of successes. This event will introduce a number of poems that Hong Thanh Quang wrote in different periods of time. In this colourful night, poems will be performed in different forms of arts such as poem recitation, “Xam” singing, “Hue” singing and other types of singing. The presence of the poet himself will be indispensable. He will deliver his poems in his own ways. Besides familiar songs such as "Khuc mua thu", "Me", "Romance No.4", which were set to music by musician Phu Quang, the event will bring to the audience other Phu Quang’s works which were set to music by musicians An Thuyen, Đuc Trinh, Le May.

“Van nguyen la noi khat” will enjoy the presence of many talented artists, who are also close friends of poet Hong Thanh Quang. They are: People’s Artists Pham Ngoc Khoi, Thuy Mui, Thuy Ngan, Quoc Anh... Meritorious Artists: Quyen Van Minh, Tan Minh, Thu Ha, Thu Huyen, Đuc Long, Ngoc Khang, Thanh Tam, Ploong Thiet, Hoang Tung, Dieu Huong... Talented artists Lan Anh, Tuan Hiep, Thanh Cuong, young talent Layla (Runner-up of Giọng hat Viet 2019), artist Nguyen Huu Chien Thang... along with other special guests.

Poet Hong Thanh Quang is the Art Director of the event. Chief Director is musician Nguyen Quang Long. Musicians Tuan Nghia, Phan Thanh Cuong, Nguyen Hai Thuy also participate in making the show. Nguyen Nhat Giang is the Stage Director. Director of Photography is Le Đai Phong and Nguyen Tien Dung (Dung Choai) is the Animator of the event.

Poet Hong Quang Thanh said  “Van nguyen la noi khat” simply happens after I listened to my friends’ suggestions. I am very lucky to have good friends who care a lot about my feelings and inspiration. After life and death health incidents that I experienced since 2019, when I finally was able to recover, my friends suggested I hold another musical poem event. They are fascinated by what I do, in any circumstances.

This year is special as my comrades and I who were born in 1962 will finally turn 60, which means we have lived for the length of about five circles of twelve Vietnamese zodiac animals, as people born to the year of the Tiger. At such a stage of life, obviously I have many things to share. In a way, I have gone through the most active years of my life, and started my retirement from everything.

But on a different perspective, I put an end to a period of my life to begin another. Despite my old age and the fact that my health is not good as before, my enthusiasm and inspiration are no less at all.”

The musical poem night entitled “Vẫn luôn là nỗi khát” will take place on September 4th at Hanoi Opera House. This will mark the new journey of Hong Thanh Quang as a poet.
