Vienna, February 6, Austrian President Alexander Van der Bellen confirmed today that the violent earthquake that struck Turkey and Syria is an unspeakable catastrophe, expressing his sympathy to the families of the victims and to all those who lost their homes and are looking for safety.

The Austrian president said in a statement today, Monday, that he had already started sending aid, thanking the Austrian aid organizations for the rapid emergency assistance and everyone who donated to support Turkey and Syria in this serious disaster.
It is noteworthy that a strong earthquake, measuring 7.7 on the Richter scale, hit the Turkish-Syrian border today, killing about 1,500 people so far and injuring several thousand others.

Austria has decided to send emergency aid to Turkey and Syria to relief the victims of the earthquake disaster, and the aid includes 84 soldiers and three million euros.
Austrian Chancellor Karl Nehmer said in statements today, Monday, that he is in solidarity with the two affected countries after the devastating earthquake in the Turkish-Syrian border area, in the earthquake zone.
In addition, the Chancellor indicated that 3 million euros will be provided from the Foreign Disaster Fund to support relief organizations in their work at the site, explaining that according to the current plans, the relief operation of the Austrian army is scheduled to last for about ten days.
