INTRODUCTION OF THEORY AND PRACTICE OF SOCIALISM IN VIETNAM

The book "Theory and Practice of Socialism in Vietnam"; by General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong translated and published in eight foreign languages helps international friends, readers and compatriots at home and overseas learn more about the land, people, culture, reform, and development of Vietnam.

On the occasion of the 92nd founding anniversary of the Communist Party of Vietnam (February 3, 1930 – February 3, 2022), the National Political Publishing House launched the Vietnamese version of the book "Một số vấn đề lý luận và thực tiễn về chủ nghĩa xã hội và con đường đi lên chủ nghĩa xã hội ở Việt Nam" (translated as Theory and Practice of Socialism in Vietnam) - one of the highly influential publications of Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong. The book is composed of his 29 selected writings, articles and speeches, focusing on the main points: (1) To realize step-by-step the path to socialism; (2) To have highest unity in the Party's directions and resolutions, the State's policies and laws, and activities are all for the benefit of the people, in the spirit of “When the front calls, the back cheers” (Tiền hô hậu ủng), “One calls, one hundred respond” (Nhất hô bá ứng), “One common heart from top to
bottom” (Trên dưới đồng lòng), “Smoothness flows both vertically and horizontally” (Dọc ngang thông suốt); (3) To promote human dignity and honor, considering them as the most sacred and noble thing; (4) To affirm the unique school of foreign affairs and diplomacy, with rich national characteristic of "the
bamboo of Vietnam", (Cây tre Việt Nam) of “strong roots, stout trunks, and flexible branches;” and (5) To consider culture as the spiritual foundation of society. So long as culture remains, so will our nation. The book has become an important orientation, creating ideological unity in the entire society, promoting the great all-nation unity to realize the strategic goals that the Party, President Ho Chi Minh and the entire Vietnamese people have chosen.

After its release, the book has received positive reviews and special attention from domestic and foreign public opinion. Aiming to spread the political meaning and guiding value of the book, meanwhile contributing to communicating the Party and State's viewpoints, directions and resolutions on socialism and the path to socialism of Vietnam in order to help international friends, readers and our compatriots at home and overseas to learn more about the country and people of Vietnam, and the path that the Party, State and people of Vietnam have firmly chosen for developing the prosperous and happy country; together with the consensus of Central agencies, the National Political Publishing House organized the translation, coordinated publication of this book's versions in eight foreign language: English, French, Chinese, Russian, Spanish, Lao, Dutch and Italian, with a total circulation of more than 14,000 copies. The selected experts and translators have to convey exactly the content and spirit of the original version into foreign language versions whose style and expression is accessible to foreign readers. For the reason that foreign experts who love and have good knowledge about the country and people of Vietnam, especially Vietnamese language and political characteristics, with specialty in political science were invited to check the translations. In addition to the paper books, to further improve the effectiveness of communication work and widely spread the meaning of the book's publication in foreign languages, the online versions are also available for free on the publisher’s website, www.stbook.vn.
