The Truth National Political Publishing House published the book Huong by Nguyen Thuy Kha, with a cover drawn by artist Le Thiet Cuong, to help today's and tomorrow's youth understand more about their father's generation, who sacrificed for the nation's independence and freedom, and to have a more objective and comprehensive view of history and soldiers who fought for the nation.
The book’s story is based on the life of Linh, a young novice teacher who volunteered for serving on a dangerous battlefield. He met a heartfelt love affair, a predestined love with a girl named Huong in Quang Tri in raining bombs and bullets period.
Despite the war's inflicted pain and loss, love still radiates the blue color of life. However, the young soldier's poetic and romantic love blossoming amid the ruins of war is tinged with tragedy.
The war had pushed them apart, making it impossible for them to see each other again, so that by the late afternoon when Linh found Huong, she was no longer in this world. But life still favors him when he sees Bao - the doctor on the other side of fighting line who once treated and protected him during his days in the hospital and who later became Huong's husband and father of his children when he couldn't find any news of him during the turbulent times of war.
Linh, Bao, and Thom - Linh's daughter's meeting contains tears of miserableness, surprise, separation, pent-up grief, intimacy and humanity. After all, the people he knew and fought alongside on both sides of the battle line came to this land of Quang Tri to remember the past, reflect together on life, on the pain and loss of war, on love, national love, to put the past away and look forward to the future.
