Dr. Thomas David Jones, US astronaut and Air Force officer, stressed the importance of strengthening international cooperation and exchanging expertise in the field of planetary defence. This came during his attendance at the Eighth Conference on Planetary Defense at the United Nations in Vienna, in which the Austrian Academy of Sciences participated. The retired astronaut and recipient of the NASA Medal said that the conference was an important opportunity to update information, pointing to the importance of increasing European-American coordination in the field of organizing missions to outer space, increasing research and developing advanced technology.

It is noteworthy that the Vienna Municipality held a dinner party for the participants in the conference, and the Austrian Academy of Sciences hosted part of the conference sessions.
